HISTORY

The Madison Mile is a one-mile swim competition along the beautiful Madison shoreline.

This year’s event will take place at the Madison Surf Club on Saturday June 21st at 9:00am. This prestigious event attracts hundreds of top-quality swimmers from around the country, and is the fastest open water field in the northeast.

In addition to hosting the USMS National Championship, the Madison Mile is also State Championships for both CT Masters (USMS) and CT Swimming (USA Swimming.)

The race was founded by the late Dave Parcells, who campaigned for the Madison Mile to host the USMS National Championships and learned shortly before his death that his bid for the event had been successful. Parcells died in 2007 while competing in the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim. In 2002, he became the oldest person and fourth American to complete a double-cross of the English Channel. In his lifetime, he crossed the 21-mile channel four times.

Race staff continue the event in his spirit and dedicate the Madison Mile to his memory. Proceeds from the event benefit the Valley-Shore YMCA and the Y AquaDome in Madison.
